It had been at 1.5%. He told us of a request from a 6th grader for a donation to help with his expenses to attend the People to People Student Ambassador Program in Australia. After discussion, it was decided that this is not historically related so we will not be donating. Tammy made a motion to accept the report. Jim Zajac seconded. Motion carried.
Museum Keys – Chris had two extra keys made. Don Mannigel and Doris Malcheski have them.
Spring Newsletter – Marian reported it should be ready by the end of this week or beginning of next. Fine Line Graphics has gone out of business so Sir Speedy will now be handling our printing needs.
Professor Bendan’s Internship – Chris received word that Professor Brendan does not have one student who would be able to oversee our project. But, she does have 2-3 willing to come up and train our high school students. Don Mannigel said she suggested a 3 day training program with our students. They would be able to work during the summer and then one of the students from Madison would come up periodically to check on their progress. Chris will let her know we would like to go ahead with that and find out the cost involved. In the book she prepared for us, she mentioned the various equipment we would need, so Chris will take that into account as well.
Chris mentioned there is a workshop in Madison on May 20th regarding Past Perfect which is the software our students would be using. He, Jim Zajac and Norine may attend.
Grant Application – Chris reported the State Historical Society has grants available for supplies we could use for our archival needs. The application is due by June 3rd. He handed out information regarding this.
Archeology Event – The State Historical Society declared the month of May to be Historic Preservation & Archeology month. Communities throughout Wisconsin plan events to promote historical places and landmarks. Chris reported to them we will be promoting our society at the Stone Barn. Bob Fay, who is doing the excavating there will showcase his techniques used to find the various artifacts at the site. This will be held on May 1st and a booyah sale will also take place with the proceeds going to the Stone Barn.
Artifacts - Marian said Fine Line Graphics donated a 3 drawer file along with 30 years of copies of the Pulaski News. They also donated file folders and envelopes. She purchased a 4 drawer file from them for $50.00. She also purchased protective sheets for a cost of $10.00 and we will reimburse her.
By Laws – no report
Grounds & Maintenance – Mike suggested their committee gather a list of what needs to be done and a time frame needed for repairs to our museum building. This would help determine where our money should go. Harry said he had received a call from a member in Green Bay who was disappointed we had donated to the Stone Barn. Chris also read a letter from Laura Schroeder who had the same sentiment. Harry is concerned we will lose members because of that. A discussion followed that we had asked the members at the annual meeting to vote on whether or not we should go ahead with a donation and the vote was in favor of it. Larry Puzen reported we need the back entrance graded because of damage caused by the snow removal this winter. He will have Mike Blohowiak check it out. Jim Zajac reported we do not need to install a carbon monoxide detector because the state law does not require it for businesses. He purchased a new exit light and will install it.
Volunteers – Sharon said she will need a list of the museum hours and Polka Days to know what time slots she will need to get volunteers. The museum is scheduled to be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 – 1:00 and Polka Days from 10:00 – 1:00 on Saturday and Sunday. John Mihalko will have it open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 – 1:00 twice a month. These hours will run June 7th – August 30th.
Membership – Norine reported we have lost four members including Maureen Lindner who passed away.
Annual Dinner – Norine has reserved the legion hall for October 26th, the last Wednesday in October.
She will call Super Ron’s to ask them to hold that date as well.
Public Relations – Tammy said she signed up for Google Analytics, a free program that allows us to see how many people are visiting our website and where they are from. Last month we had 29 from the U.S. and 1 from India. She will keep us updated each month. She also created a Facebook page for us so that should add to our “hits”. Dynamic Design had run a contest for pictures of Old Buildings & Barns. She handed out extra copies of the calendars they had printed for all of us.
Bake Sale – Chris said Theresa informed him the bake sale will be May 6th at North Shore Bank.
Historic Structures – Chris said he and Larry have not come up with a structure. Norine suggested the Century Farm store in Laney.
Fund Raising – Chris reported the Stone Barn committee wants to get a booth at Lambeau Field to raise money. They need a tax exempt number and asked if they could use ours. In return, they will give us 10% of their profits. Chris checked with our insurance company and was told we would need to pay a one-time fee of $30.00 to $50.00 to cover that. Norine made a motion to go ahead with this. Jim Zajac seconded. Motion carried.
Sharon said the Spring Cleaning of the museum will be held on Wednesday, May 18th from 9:00 – 12:00. Everyone is invited to bring their cleaning supplies and help out!
